Anti-Stress Talk

Written by Azmi Abdul Aziz.

529166_360390270671188_184122271631323_1068471_2134548906_nDon’t hate stress too much because at some point in life stress can be a good thing. Stress is good when you are trapped with a wild tiger in the woods. Your heart should pounds faster, muscle tightens, blood pressure rises, breath quickens and your senses becomes sharper. All these physical changes increase your stamina and prepare you to either fight or flee and free from being the tiger’s lunch.

The stress response is the body’s way of saving your life. It helps you slam on the brake pedal when you saw a child crossing in front of the car you are driving. Stress keeps you alert and on the go to meet the demands in your life. However, over a certain point and if not properly managed stress stops being helpful and starts causing damage to your mood, productivity, concentration and eventually your life.

On 20th March 2012, AUCMS Polyclinic under directorship of Dr. Azmi Abd Khan, Acting Director of Health Services Department organized a talk on Anti-Stress at Auditorium Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Jaafar in Taman Sri Serdang. More than 70 staff and students attended the half day program. The program began with a welcoming speech by SN Rohizah Osman as organizing committee. Two guest speakers were invited to participate in the program that is Dr. Eddie Soon, Senior Lecturer MD Faculty and En. Anwar Mohshad Ali, Training Manager. Dr. Eddie gave a talk on how to cope and manage the stress in everyday life followed by anti-stress  demonstration by En.Anwar.

At the end of the session, all the audience learn that everyone experience stress differently. It is important to recognize when stress level goes out of control and what steps to take in managing one’s stress level in order to lead a healthy and happy life.
